One thing that has saddened me over the past few weeks is the lack of development.
Recently I finished a library called "dta_admin". This library allows you to administrate a game, and can be extended using modules. My hope for this system was that people would go after it, write modules for it, and get back to me so I can include them and the library can be improved.
Except nobody did so.
Since the admin system of Cowed wasn't exactly working very much, I decided that it would be best if dta_admin would first receive some of the basics that Cowed would also be needing (i.e. a ban system, managing administrators properly) and that it could eventually be integrated into Cowed and then receive some special Cowed-exclusive modules it'd need (like setting the game time, toggling OOC and other things that are only used on Cowed).
However, I was feeling down; I had already done some work, and a new project was starting up at school that was taking up my time. Furthermore, I was contacted and asked if I could update console a bit. The solution is simple: query one of the other developers to do it.
Except I saw what I feared what would happen: they didn't do anything. Neither Oasiscircle nor "Peanut" did any work. They didn't even report with work, tell me what they had done already. Instead, they were apparently "busy".
Well, here's a message to you both: starting now you're both removed of power and demoted to Lieutenant under Thijsterhaar's wing. I'm not putting up with two piece of shits whose sole reason for having admiralship is that they happened to have been involved in Cowed's development in the past.
This is the present. If neither one of you can be bothered and step up to do some of the work, you don't deserve the position of Admiral and you don't deserve to have any say in how this game is run.
Yes, this means I've basically taken over. W12W is the only remaining administrator next to Levian who is too busy playing Mass Effect 2. But at least I've seen their work, and at least W12W has been at least somewhat active. And I can sympathise that he doesn't have much to offer.
But this does not go for the two of you. If you want your old access back, you're going to have to work for it: write modules for dta_admin, and submit them to
so I can freaking implement them. Until that is done, you will not only remain powerless but Cowed will also remain without a proper admin system.
As for the rest of the community, you may think that I need to apologise and that I'm aggressively taking over, but you can't be more wrong; I fixed a hundred freaking bugs and made the game better thanks to the integration of a new dynamic lighting system, not to mention the trouble I've saved for those who previously had access to the source-code with all the changes I did on the inside to make the source something bearable to work with.
I've done enough work, and I'm still providing you with a server to host this website and the game. The only thing I asked is to bear with me whenever I go on one of my minigun crusades (which doesn't happen all that often as you may like to think) and to help me in making this a better game.
The latter still hasn't been fulfilled not even by the community; I still don't know whom to give access to the Player's Corner. But that issue is minimal, and to be honest may be caused by my own ignorance.
Thank you for reading this. Now please, do something useful.

New site functionality

Slowly but steadily I'm learning more and more about the system I've put to use, Mambo. Several new functions have been rolled out now that I feel I know enough about the software to safely put them to good use without breaking anything else.
A minor but very nice change is that your session no longer expires if you're logged in, just like on the forum. You may have to login again once more, but then it shouldn't automatically log you out unless you use another computer or user account, or if wait 30 years for the session to expire.
I've also added a "Downloads" page where you can download the game.
"But Data", you'll undoubtedly ask, "isn't this a BYOND game? We don't need to download anything for a BYOND game."
If you would've asked that, then the Downloads page is not for you. The Downloads page is for the outsiders, those not in the know of BYOND. No installation of BYOND is required with the new download, and outsiders can play the game under the Guest key without having to meet BYOND just yet.
Another item you've suddenly seen pop up is the "Player's Corner". I intend to give a select few players access to this area and provide them with an unique opportunity to voice the players' concerns and opinions in a new way: through a blog which is displayed prominently on the website itself and may even be displayed on the front page.
I've also gone ahead and enabled commenting on all posts except static content (such as the Downloads page). You need to be logged in to comment, but since your login is now preserved it shouldn't take more than filling in your username and password once more, perhaps clicking the "Remember me" option.
I hope that the new functions on this site will encourage people to use it more, as the forums aren't the only place where you can talk now. Ironically if you have any suggestions for the site you'll have to voice those on the forums. ;)

For our less than intelligent users...

As I had stated in my previous post, you can't login to the site until you change your password on the forum. Since the two are separate, you can easily do this by following these easy steps:
1. Click on the "Forum" link. Note that I have received reports that this link leads to a white page in IE; I may or may not decide to fix this later. 2. Login to the forum using the login fields on it. 3. Change your password on the forum. 4. Now you can login to the main site with the same username and password as you have on the forum.
My apologies for believing that this community contained people who would figure this out on their own- I shall be more careful in the future.
Although site access won't do you much good for the time being (at least until the Player's Corner is up) it's good to at least change your password once in awhile. You youngsters tend to give out your password like candy or at least make them easy to guess so it can't do much harm.
Good luck, -Data

The new home of Cowed is now this website, cowed.org! This site will hopefully be updated by our enthusiastic members as time goes on.
Feel free to have a look around. The forum has been wrapped neatly into the website. However due to a bug in the bridge software you'll have to change your password on the forum before you can login to the site. It's only a minor issue which I hope everyone will resolve on their own.
